The Pickering Naturalists Bird Feeder Tour Outing on Sat.Jan.19 was quite
successful, in that 27 species were identified, including a mystery
Accipiter perched in a tree on Bayly St. opposite the Pickering GO
station--the sun prevented us from geting a good fix--big Cooper's or,
perhaps a N.Goshawk. We toured along the sideroads of west and north
Pickering. Best birds were: 30 Snow Buntings and 12 Horned Larks in a field
alongside Sideline 24, south of hy.7; C.Redpolls at a feeder in Whitevale,
and a brief glimpse of a White-winged Crossbill on Rouge Valley Rd. in west
Pickering. White- and Red-breasted Nuthatches, House Finches, Downy and
Hairy Woodpeckers, Cardinals were abundant.
