Sioux Lookout Goldeneye

For northern birders and intrepid travellers.

There was a male common Goldeneye in Frog Rapids just south of Sioux Lookout
(Lat. 50) for most of the day on Tuesday, February 5, 2002.

There are 300 to 400 m of open water at the "rapids' betweem two lakes which
seems to provide food.

Take Hwy 72 north from Hwy 17 at Dinorwic, about 325 km west of Thunder Bay.
Drive north for 60 km and watch for the steel truss bridge over some open
water. Watch for Frog Rapids Camp (closed for the season) on the left just
across the bridge. Goldeneye was downstream, to the west. If you reach the
town of Sioux Lookout, you have driven about 5 km too far.
