Marbled Godwit at Aylmer WMA
April 30, 2002

This afternoon at 4:15 p.m. a Marbled Godwit dropped in to Aylmer WMA while
we were checking up on the Glossy Ibis and Ross's Goose. It was still
there feeding at 5:30 p.m. when we left.

At one point the Ross's Goose, Glossy Ibis and Marbled Godwit could all be
seen in the same telescope view. What a trio to show up at the same time!
This is the 5th ever Marbled Godwit for Elgin County, 3rd ever Glossy Ibis
and 5th ever Ross's Goose.

For most of the hour the Glossy Ibis and Marbled Godwit were feeding in the
grass just to the east of a very small pond as you look NNE from the main
viewing stand. They flushed with both yellowlegs and green-winged teal a
couple of times when a female harrier went over and ended up at the
northeast corner of the main body of water or on one of the small gravel
islands, but they always went back to east end of the small pond.

Directions:
>From HWY 401 take #73 (Elgin Road which becomes Imperial Road
in Elgin County) south towards Aylmer. Make a left on Ron
McNeil Road towards Springfield and a right at Hacienda Road. Go south
straight to the 2nd entranceat the Ontario Police College to the Aylmer
Wildlife Management Area behind the Police College. Follow to viewing stand.
