A mild north wind and high thermal updraft velocity may have contributed to
the wonderful sight of 4 small kettles of Broad-winged Hawks between 8 and
9AM EST on Aug. 15 at Cranberry Marsh. Also 3 low-flying Ospreys came
through. If this should continue I may elect to make this date an official
opener for the 2004 migration season. Otherwise----?
Other birds in the area-- Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Least Flycatcher, Great
Egret, Black-crowned Night Heron, several Great Blue Herons, Virginia Rail,
many Robins and Kingbirds, Baltimore Oriole, Hummingird, ----

Frome the west-- 401 to Salem Rd., south to Bayly, east through LakeRidge
Rd. in southwest Whitby, turning south at the first street thereafter at
Hall's Rd., right down to the second parking lot near the lakefront-- walk
east to the marshside platform.
