Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Cindy Isenhoff

Observers: Bob Pettit, Dan Lumm, Dan Mennil, Martha Derbowka

Visitors:
Visitors for the day included John Mills and Reg Baker from Ann Arbor MI,
as well as, Bob Petit's "Birding Class". Many thanks to the extra
"spotters" on the tower. Special thanks go to Dan Lumm and Martha
Derbowka who helped to count the numerous American Kestrels and Turkey
Vultures respectively.

Weather:
Cloudy skies with northerly winds gusting to 18 mph filled the air with
birds today. Temperatures hovered about 10 degrees C most of the day.
October has arrived in full force!

Raptor Observations:
Northerly winds brought us 13 species of raptors today! We saw a strong
showing of both Sharp-shinned, and American Kestrels. Broad-wings
continue to move thru in ones and twos. Turkey Vultures continue from
yesterdays strong showing as well.

Non-raptor Observations:
Birds of note in no particular order: Great Blue Herons, flying high
(migrating through) 8, Blue Jays continue with 1900, Red-winged Blackbirds
310, American Goldfinch 130. Two Sandhill Cranes moved thru very high.
Also seen today, Canada Geese, Killdeer, Greater Yellowlegs, Chimney
Swift, and Dark-eyed Juncos. Tree Swallows were moving through in large
groups constantly throughout the day--estimate 1000.

Predictions:
Tomorrow's weather promises to bring some sunshine and continued northerly
winds. Looks like it will be another great day on the tower!
