[Ontbirds]Bruce Peninsula National Park - CBC results

Here are the results of the Bruce Peninsula National Park CBC, held on 
Wednesday, Dec. 21.

46 - species total (slightly above average for past 10 years)
2177 - individual birds (slightly below average for pas 10 years)
23 - particants (Thank you volunteers!)

Highlights:
Red-necked Grebe (14)
Bald Eagle (6)
Merlin (1) - first for count
Ruffed Grouse (1) - count low, probably because the deep snow made it tough 
to trek around
Iceland Gull (1) - first for count; we long debated this ID vs Thayers
Snowy Owl (1) - seen attacking, killing then eating a Herring Gull!!
Red-bellied Woodpecker (1)
Black-capped Chickadee (753)
Red-breasted Nuthatch (115)
Bohemian Waxwing (32)
Dark-eyed Junco (29) - count high
Red-winged Blackbird (1)
Pine Grosbeak (26)
Pine Siskin (162)
Common Redpoll (26)

Count Week Birds (8 species):
Greater Scaup
Northern Goshawk
Winter Wren
White-throated Sparrow
Eastern Towhee
Lapland Longspur
Snow Bunting
Evening Grosbeak


Comments:
It was a windy day, with snowsqualls in the morning, clearing for a 
beautiful sunny afternoon, with overall mild temperatures. The snow depth 
(44cm average) made trekking around difficult. Special thanks to the 
volunteers who counted birds, or helped with logistics (meals) to make this 
another very successful count.
