Here are the results of the Bruce Peninsula National Park CBC, held on
Wednesday, Dec. 21.

2177 - individual birds (slightly below average for pas 10 years)
23 - particants (Thank you volunteers!)
Red-necked Grebe (14)
Bald Eagle (6)
Merlin (1) - first for count
Ruffed Grouse (1) - count low, probably because the deep snow made it tough
to trek around
Iceland Gull (1) - first for count; we long debated this ID vs Thayers
Snowy Owl (1) - seen attacking, killing then eating a Herring Gull!!
Red-bellied Woodpecker (1)
Black-capped Chickadee (753)
Red-breasted Nuthatch (115)
Bohemian Waxwing (32)
Dark-eyed Junco (29) - count high
Red-winged Blackbird (1)
Pine Grosbeak (26)
Pine Siskin (162)
Common Redpoll (26)
Count Week Birds (8 species):
It was a windy day, with snowsqualls in the morning, clearing for a
beautiful sunny afternoon, with overall mild temperatures. The snow depth
(44cm average) made trekking around difficult. Special thanks to the
volunteers who counted birds, or helped with logistics (meals) to make this
another very successful count.
Happy holidays and great birding!
