A relatively mild day with little wind and overcast skies made for a
good day of birding for Kurt Hennige and me. The day began with a BARRED
OWL sitting on the hydro line on McIntyre Road, 1 km. east of County Rd. 7
north of Bath. Also on McIntyre Road at the old school house, which is the
first house on the right just west of County Rd. 7, the WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW was seen by the feeder near the scarecrow. Two groups totalling 100
WILD TURKEYS were seen on McIntyre Road west of the schoolhouse and along
County Road 7 just north of Bath.
In Prince Edward County in South Bay there were 300 REDHEADS with 2
CANVASBACKS among them, 10 TUNDRA SWANS and 1 COMMON LOON. A single LESSER
SCAUP was seen in the harbour at Prince Edward Point. Fifteen species of
waterfowl were seen including LONG-TAILED DUCKS, WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS,
COMMON and RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS and GREATER SCAUP. There were 3 HORNED
GREBES seen from the road to the point. At Glenora Ferry there was 1 BALD
EAGLE with two more BALD EAGLES seen at Point Traverse. Just past Gravelly
Bay Road a flock of 5 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen feeding on the
winterberry. A single GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET and a RUFFED GROUSE were at
the same location. A single WILD TURKEY was seen strutting along Rock
XRoad. On County Road 7 going towards Cressy Point there were 8
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS in the dense red cedars near house #2989. At this
same spot was another GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET and 1 LONG-EARED OWL. A BELTED
KINGFISHER was heard calling a few kilometres further towards Cressy Point.
A pleasant day to be out birding with a good assortment of winter birds.

Good Birding
