Weather:
Substantial cloud cover until late morning made for a slow start to the
count today. Partial clearing occurred during the late morning but there
was still a good bit of cloud persisting throughout the remainder of the
day. Winds were light to moderate north-northwest for much of the day and
then abruptly switched to southeast in the late afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
As mentioned above, there was very little in the way of movement until the
skies brightened in late morning. There was a sharp pick-up in the flight
at that time although it was still a bit inconsistent, coming in pulses of
activity rather than a continuous flow of birds. A large percentage of the
birds recorded for the day were seen during a two-hour period at midday,
after which the flight tapered off sharply. Perhaps most impressive was
the very good Kestrel flight with a one-hour total of 172 between noon and
1pm representing more than half the total for the today. Also highlighting
the day was the season’s first Red-shouldered Hawk.
