Weather:
Today was sunny for much of the early part of the day with some high cirrus
cloud. There was a gradual increase in cloud cover particularly in the
afternoon when heavy cloud cover moved into the area ahead of tonight’s
forecast rain. Winds were light southeast early becoming moderate by late
morning.

Raptor Observations:
A somewhat slow start to the day turned into a very steady flight with good
numbers for most species and very good diversity overall. In addition to
another impressive TV flight, this was the biggest movement of Red-tails
thus far and included a juvenile “Western” type – more heavily marked on
the underside and under wing coverts, more uniformly dark above with less
contrast between the tail and the rest of the upper parts than a juvenile
“Eastern” would show. Other highlights of the day included great looks at
a juvenile Northern Goshawk, an adult male Northern Harrier, a light-morph
Rough-legged Hawk as well as 4 Golden Eagles including two in tandem.

Non-raptor Observations:
Other migrants noted today were Fox Sparrows and Lapland Longspurs.
