10 intrepid birders enjoyed the 8 degree temperatures and drove the
environs of Peterborough and Apsley today. Despite only recording 34
species, some good finds were made : Raptors included 2 Coopers'
hawks, an adult Bald Eagle, a dark-phased Rough-legged Hawk, and 3
   Red-tails.
The group also saw 3 Northern Ravens, a Northern Shrike, 5
Purple Finch (#6 s. of Petroglyphs), a Red Crossbill and 12 Pine
Siskins (Jack Lake Rd., Apsley). Also on #6, a flock of about 40 Cedar
Waxwings included 5 Bohemians. All were feeding on Juniper berries.
A Kingfisher was seen on the Otonabee River near Trent
   University.
Many thanks to Jerry Ball for co-leading this outing.
