I decided to go for a hike in the section of Cootes Paradise behind McMaster
University and was pleased to find a Clay-colored Sparrow. The bird was
hopping throughout a small patch of willow trees in a low lying reedy patch
that was about 300m from the edge of the marsh. Other note worthy birds
seen were 2 virginia rails, and a few winter wrens that were not too pleased
to have us present. The Great Blue Herons appear to be doing well as i saw
5 of them along with a red-tailed hawk that was feeding on what appeared to
be a rabbit.

To get to this part of Cootes, take King Street until it runs into Main and
follow main westbound until you reach McMaster. Park on a side street near
the school and walk towards the tree line to the north of the property until
you find the opening to a trail with a sign post sticking up in the middle
of the path.

Happy Birding
