Weather:
Today was dominated by a very strong low (barometer readings were as low as
I’ve ever seen here during my time as counter) as the remnants of Hurricane
Ike approached the region. Overhead conditions were a mix of sun and cloud
with a bit of light haze and high humidity. Heavier cloud cover developed
by mid afternoon with rain beginnning soon after. Winds were light to
moderate south to south-southwest in the morning becoming moderate to
fairly strong southeast in the afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
Very few raptors were on the go today, not too surprising given the
conditions.

Non-raptor Observations:
There was some very good activity of non-raptors. Probably dozens of
hummingbirds were migrating today, the best movement of this species this
fall along with good numbers of Purple Martins, Barn and Rough-winged
Swallows. Cormorants moved in steady lines out of the mouth of the Detroit
River throughout the day.
