On a tip from Dan Salisbury and Bob Curry, I checked out the sod farms in
the Town of Dunnville, Ontario today to look for a Buff-breasted Sandpiper.
Glad I did. Here is what I had:
7 Amer. Golden Plover
7 Semi. Plovers
3 Pectoral Sandpipers
2 Lesser Yellowlegs
4 RUDDY TURNSTONES (odd to find them in this field)
1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER
All of the above birds were along the west side of Hwy #65 (Hutchinson Rd),
just south of Poth Road. This field is mostly dirt now with almost no grass
left - it looks very patchy.
Other shorebirds today were 27 Sanderlings at Rock Point (south on Reg Rd 3
from Dunnville and follow signs to the park) and 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS on
Harborview Road, near the south end of Golf Course Road on Lake Erie in the
Town of Wainfleet. Also, Least and Semi. Sandpipers at a few spots.
