At the foot of Victoria Avenue (Hwy 24) on Lake Ontario, I found a
third-spring male King Eider today (Saturday). The bird was seen from the
road along the lake a couple of hundred yards to the west of Victoria. It
was with White-winged Scoters, of which there were many, along with lots of
other species of diving waterfowl. It was far out but viewing conditions
today were quite good (sunny and light winds). This is a striking and
beautiful bird.

Vineland is a few miles west of St. Catharines, Ont and about 20 miles (a
guess) from the Niagara River. Victoria Avenue (Hwy 24) is easily accessed
from the QEW. Go north on Victoria a short ways to the lake, then follow
the road to the west a short ways until you have a good view. There are
only a few residences on this short road, so traffic is not a problem.

Good birding!
