The adult male Barrow's Goldeneye found by Bill Crins at the Lakefield
sewage lagoons yesterday was on the nearby Otonabee River this morning,
Sunday April 26. It was with a group of Common Goldeneye close to the west
shore of the river about 2km south of the junction of County Rd. 33 and
Water Street, the road that runs down the east shore of the river. We saw it
there about 10.30am, near a white cottage with several canoes stacked beside
it, but earlier it had been farther north, close to the 33/Water St.
junction, so it would be worth checking this whole stretch of the river if
you don't find it at once.
A gorgeous bird, in high breeding plumage.

Directions:
The village of Lakefield is north of Peterborough. Take Hwy 28 N of
Peterborough to County Rd 33 and turn left (west). The driveway leading to
the sewage ponds is 1 km on the left, and a little farther on Cty.Rd.33 ends
at Water Street. Turn left (south) onto Water Street and scan the river for
the next 2km.
