*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for May 8, 2010: *

A blustery day with 60 km/h winds and intermittent light rain greeted the
Park this morning. Still, birds were busy about foraging. The morning’s
highlight was a singing male YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER at the corner of
Shuster Trail and Tilden Woods Trail. A mixed bag of others, including
BLACK-THROATED BLUE, NASHVILLE, and BLACKBURNIAN warblers, NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH, and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, were also found along Tilden’s. Along
the bike trail south of Dunes parking lot, CAPE MAY WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA
and BAY-BREASTED WARBLER were also observed. In addition to some of these
species, Woodland Trail also produced BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLACK-AND-WHITE,
YELLOW-RUMPED and CHESTNUT-SIDED warblers and AMERICAN REDSTART. A
BREWSTER’S WARBLER was reported on Woodland Trail between Posts 18 and 19. A
PEREGRINE FALCON was sighted from the Woodland Trail.

At the Tip, besides the massive surf, birders reported a BLACK TERN. Five
species of swallow were seen grounded on or milling about the beach at the
Tip.

RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were reported from the Tip, and from the southern
swamp section of the Woodland Trail.

Outside the Park today, a SNOWY EGRET was reported at Muddy Creek,
accompanied by three GREAT EGRETS.

Good Birding,

Hike Leaders Pete, Karl, Todd, Justin, Marianne, John and Jeremy
