Further to the historical Willow Ptarmigan records summarized by Jean
Iron and Ron Pittaway on Ontbirds recently, it may be worth noting that
a single Willow Ptarmigan spent over a week in February, 1960 at a
location (Dane, Ontario) almost 240 kilometres north of North Bay. That
city is at about the same latitude as the Chelsea, Quebec record
mentioned in the Ontbirds summary. The Dane location is over 400
kilometres south of Moosonee, where "ptarmigan have not been seen . . .
for about 20 years." Last winter, however, there were quite a few
reports from the Quebec side of Kirkland Lake (and Dane).
