Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 14:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours

Official Counter: Jeremy Hatt

Observers: Frank Dolby, Jim McCoy

Visitors:
Two local visitors from Kingsville joined the count today: Ron Bootes and
Marg Bootes. People continue to show up to witness the count for the first
time having learned about Holiday Beach as a raptor hot spot from CTV News
Windsor.

Weather:
A hazy morning with low visibility resulted in a slow start to the count.
Temperature ranged from 16 - 21C; winds out of the south or southwest all
day ranging from 1 - 4km km/hr. Cloudy for most of the day until the early
afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
Southwest winds and hazy conditions with low visibility resulted in a slow
day. Sharp-shinned Hawks flew over in the greatest numbers followed by
Turkey Vultures. Only 1 buteo species today, a single Broad-winged Hawk. A
total of 161 birds of 9 species were counted.

Non-raptor Observations:
A good movement of warblers were migrating through in the early morning
including Northern Parula, Black-throated Green Warbler, Yellow-rumped
Warbler, Tennessee Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Palm Warbler, Blackburnian
Warbler, and Blackpoll Warbler.

Other highlights include 6,322 Blue Jays and 458 American Goldfinch.
Purple Finches and Pine Siskins continue to pass over in low numbers.

Predictions:
Variable cloudiness; temperatures are forecasted at 14 - 23C; winds are
predicted to be out of the south-west all day from 15 - 20 km/hr. Turkey
Vultures and Sharp-shinned Hawks should be seen in moderate numbers.
Southwest winds will likely mean fewer birds but perhaps a few Peregrine
Falcons will make an appearance.
