  The Buffalo Bird Report is a service provided by your

  Highlights of reports received November 26 through December
  4 from the Niagara Frontier Region.

  November 26, at Dunkirk Harbor on Lake Erie, an apparent
  CALIFORNIA GULL on the docks.

  A species unknown in the region until 1988 - three ROSS'S GEESE at two
  locations this week. One ROSS'S GOOSE continues on the beach
  at Beaver Island State Park, present November 20 through at
  least the 30th. And, two ROSS'S GEESE, November 29, on
  Hutton Road at the gypsum ponds in the Genesee County Town
  of Oakfield.

  SNOWY OWLS have returned to the region after the major
  irruption last winter. Two SNOWY OWLS on the Cambria-
  Lockport Townline south of Route 104, and single SNOWY OWLS
  on the beach at Wright Park in Dunkirk and on the Buffalo
  State College campus, roosted on the theater building on
  Rockwell Road. This owl was harassed by a PEREGRINE FALCON;
  likely one the pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS residing at the
  nearby Richarson Towers.

  November 30, two GR. WHITE-FR. GEESE at Ring-necked Marsh in
  the Iroquois Refuge. Also a NORTHERN SHRIKE at the marsh.
  Another NORTHERN SHRIKE this week at Fort Niagara State
  Park.

  Exceptional feeder reports - during the November snow storm,
  an EASTERN MEADOWLARK appeared at a feeder in East Aurora,
  and was still present on the 29th. December 1, a ROSE-BR.
  GROSBEAK in the Village of Hamburg. Another Hamburg feeder
  reported PINE SISKIN, FOX SPARROW and PURPLE FINCH. In the
  Town of Evans, on a property adjacent to the Graycliff
  Estate, two RED-HEADED WDPKRS. continue from the summer.
  Male RED-W. BLACKBIRD at a Grand Island feeder on Baseline
  Road. WHITE-CR. SPARROW in Hinsdale, in Cattaraugus County.
  And PINE SISKINS at several feeders.

  Other reports this week - An unexpected RED-NECKED GREBE at
  the Batavia Waste Water Plant.  Three CACKLING GEESE among
  14 waterfowl species at Dunkirk Harbor. BLACK SCOTER on the
  Niagara River off Beaver Island State Park. ROUGH-LEGGED
  HAWK on Route 20A in Wales. A DUNLIN on Hutton Road in
  Oakfield. And at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo, YELLOW-B.
  SAPSUCKER, plus BROWN CREEPER, WINTER WREN, GOLDEN-CR.
  KINGLET, AMER. TREE SPARROW and WHITE-THR. SPARROW.

  The BOS holiday meeting will be on Wednesday, December 10,
  at 7 PM at the Buffalo Museum of Sciece.
