We had a full tower today, with a group from OFO led by Jeremy Bensette and
plenty of people watching the great flight!

Strong north winds and lots of cloud cover made for a chilly day, going
from 8 to 13C.

Raptor Observations:
We were certainly put through the paces today with 14 species! Turkey
Vultures and Sharp-shinned Hawks were the dominant species, but the
excitement came from elsewhere. The first Golden Eagle (immature) of the
season flew right beside the tower on the shore side, flashing it's
beautiful white wing patches and taking its time, allowing everyone a great
look. We also got our first of season Northern Goshawk, also an immature
bird that powered right beside us after appearing out of the trees around
the pond on the south side of the tower. Northern Harriers were abundant
again today, almost reaching 50! The high winds and clouds were keeping all
the birds low, which was a great bonus, especially for viewing some
spectacular Red-shouldered Hawks.

Non-raptor Observations:
Despite having difficulty hearing bird song past the wind, Chimney Swift,
starlings, Cedar Waxwings, Red-winged Blackbirds and American Goldfinches
were detected passing the tower. The morning brought warbler species
chipping around the bushes, most unidentified, but with a number of
Yellow-rumped Warblers. Tree Swallows were a bit more evident today, flying
in and among the Blue Jays, which numbered at 14,690 for the day. See
today's eBird list

There will be strong winds again tomorrow from the NE with some rain
through the day.
