Visitors:
Two people visited the tower in the afternoon as well as three observers
who frequent the count. 


Weather:
A brisk, sunny day w/ temperatures ranging from -1.6C in the early morning
to 2.1C in the afternoon. Winds were out of the west and WNW w/ gusts up to
19km/h making things feel quite a bit colder! A layer of snow left over
from yesterday stayed on the tower throughout the day without melting. Low
cloud cover in the morning increased to about 30% cover in the afternoon. 

Raptor Observations:
155 raptors of 8 species were counted. A decent day for buteos w/ 100
Red-tailed Hawks and 21 Red-shouldered Hawks. The highlight was an early
morning adult Golden Eagle flying low and very close to the tower. Gorgeous
looks! 2 More Golden Eagles flew over later in the day and all age classes
(adult, sub-adult, and immature) were seen. Turkey Vultures and
Sharp-shinned Hawks continue to trickle through (5 and 7 birds
respectively) and 12 Northern Harriers also migrated by. 

Non-raptor Observations:
Large blackbird flocks kept things busy in the morning w/ 811 Red-winged
Blackbirds, 162 Rusty Blackbirds, 1,386 Common Grackles, and 269
unidentified blackbird species counted. American Goldfinches continue to
migrate in high numbers w/ 280 counted today. 

Tundra Swans continue to increase w/ a total of 142 birds counted in flocks
of 2-40 birds. Mallards and American Coots made up the majority of birds on
the marsh but a good variety of waterfowl continue to be seen. 

Other passerines flying east to west included 35 American Crows, 23 Horned
Larks, 5 Eastern Bluebirds, 19 European Starlings, 4 American Pipit, 2 Snow
Buntings, 1 Purple Finch, and 1 Pine Siskin.

Predictions:
A chilly day ahead w/ temperatures ranging from -1C to 1C and southwests
winds up to 20km/h. There is a 40% chance of snow (less than 1cm).
