Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours

Official Counter: Andrew Sturgess

Observers: Greg Norwood, Natalie Cypher

Weather:
There was light to moderate east winds with low cloud cover restricted to
the horizons and mild temperatures reaching a maximum of 77 F.

Raptor Observations:
Sharp-shinned hawks had a good flight for early September at this site,
while all other species had a typical showing. The flight was at an
unusually low altitude for the first half of the day with most birds
passing not far above tree-top level. The flight normalized mid-day as
birds took a pleasant line for viewing, running southeast to northwest over
Gibraltar and just north of us. The first merlin of the season was seen.

Non-raptor Observations:
Notable feeding flocks of swallows were visible just south of the boat
launch with barn, tree, and northern rough-winged identified. Purple
martins were around all day, but in low numbers. Monarch migration amounted
to fewer than 50 individuals, but was the most we have seen. Dragonfly
activity was low with less than a few dozen seen all day. Two common
nighthawks passed during the morning.

Predictions:
Tomorrow will be a bit warmer, peaking at about 84 F. Winds will be low
from the southeast maintaining a consistent strength throughout the day.
The flight will likely be similar to today.
