Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter:        Nicole Shangi

Observers:        Hugh Kent, Liz Kent, Noel Herdman

Visitors:
We thank Noel for his exceptional spotting skills this morning. Despite the
weather, we had a young school group join us today to watch the migrations.
We thank all our other visitors today as well!

Weather:
The weather today was cloudy and windy and a bit drizzly at times. The wind
was westerly all day and chilly.

Raptor Observations:
We are starting to see the first of the turkey vulture migration, we had a
few passing through most of the day. The afternoon observations slowed down
significantly but in the morning we had sharp-shinned hawks, kestrels, a
merlin, peregrines, harriers and even a few broad winged hawks.

Non-raptor Observations:
the strong winds kept many birds away today and we did not observe any new
species. It looked like even the blue jays had a bit of a hard time
fighting the wind, we counted close to 10,000. We have been on the lookout
for shorebirds and waterfowl. The marsh may see more shorebirds this fall
due to the lower level of water in the marsh.

Predictions:
Tomorrow's wind may have a northerly component for some of the day so
hopefully we see the last few broad-winged hawks close to the tower. We
look forward to counting more turkey vultures, and we are quickly
approaching red-shouldered hawk migration.
