Total observation time: 5 hours

Official Counter:        Hugh Kent

Observers:        Chip Ogglesby, Jacob Stasso, Liz Kent

Visitors:
Thanks to Jacob, Chip and Dana for helping out observing. It was good to
meet Jacob's Grandfather, Dan and a number of other visitors to the Tower
who showed interest in the Hawk Watch.

Weather:
Relatively cool (20c) with wind from the north. Good visibility with cloud
cover increasing gradually through the morning.

Raptor Observations:
Nice start to the season with seven species. Red-tailed Hawks topped the
bill with 40, followed by Turkey Vulture (22) and Northern Harrier (14)
including 3 grey ghosts. Good to see Broad-winged Hawks (12) early in the
season. Bald Eagles (3), American Kestrels (3) and a single Sharp-shinned
Hawk closed the tally for the morning.

Non-raptor Observations:
Good variety and numbers of Hirundines passing through today with Purple
Martin (147) and Tree Swallow (157) the highest. On the marsh a Common
Gallinule and a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron were notable with the
usual large numbers of Mute Swan (87) and Double-crested Cormorant (94).
Only two species of Warbler were identified although a few more dived into
the undergrowth around the tower and were never seen again! Flying past
included Cedar Waxwing (95), American Goldfinch (15) and Purple Finch (3).
The list is at https://ebird.org/checklist/S192191161

Predictions:
Tomorrow maybe another good day to see hawks, as the wind remains from the
north.
