Lots of cloud around the area with 100% coverage by the end if the afternoon. Temp started at 16C and got to a high of 21C. Raptor Observations: With the southerly wind flow most of today's flight was along the cliff edge. A total of 35 raptors were tallied for the day with Kestrels (29) being the bulk of the flight. Today's count included Peregrines (2) along the cliff with the first one veering out over the lake as 3 Bald Eagles approached from the W along the cliff. *** I wanted to note that I got a text from another hawk watcher who was working outdoors NW of London and had 3000+ BWs cross over the area where he was. These birds were moving southward despite the headwinds and obviously would not make it down as far as the Hawk Cliff area but likely slid off towards Sarnia maybe? Non-raptor Observations: None provided today. Predictions: Looks like some unsettled weather for tomorrow though it appears most rain (if any) will be further east by sunup. Winds are forecast to be light from the N (OK for decent flights) BUT the TUV (Thermal Updraft Velocity) forecasts are pretty dismal as it's going to be quite cloudy so birds won't be able to kettle much. I think there'll be birds moving (it is Broadwing primetime after all) and they may be flying lower than usual because of the lack of lift. However, I don't think it'll be a big flight. Looking ahead, both Thursday and Friday are showing a bit more promise with northerly and easterly winds forecast and more sunshine.
