At least we had the warblers for entertainment! Weather: Count abandoned due to rain. Slight northerly winds largely held up by the front coming from the south-west. Showers beginning early, turning to sustained rain by 0800 EST. Eased slightly in the afternoon, but remained overcast with regular showers. Raptor Observations: Only one Sharp-shinned Hawk to report, and it was probably a bird which had stopped to kill the rainy day in the reserve and make the most of the passerine fall. A very busy day for the small birds, with a large mixed flock of vireos, chickadees and warblers keeping us entertained. A small flock of Swainson's and Hermit Thrush along with the first Northern Parula for the season were the day's highlights. Predictions: Conditions are expected to be much the same as today with regular showers, overcast skies and slight northerly winds. With a period of relative calm in the morning and patches of calmness in the afternoon, we may see some Sharp-shinned Hawk and falcons moving through after being held up today.
