Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end  time: 10:00:00
Total observation time: 3 hours

Official Counter:        Michael Burton-Smith

Observers:        Hugh Kent, Kitty Bradshaw, Liz Kent, Noel Herdman,
Patrick Tomlinson

Visitors:
Thanks to Hugh, Liz, Noel, Elizabeth, Kitty and Patrick who hung in there
with us through the morning despite the miserable weather. At least we had
the warblers for entertainment!

Weather:
Count abandoned due to rain. Slight northerly winds largely held up by the
front coming from the south-west. Showers beginning early, turning to
sustained rain by 0800 EST. Eased slightly in the afternoon, but remained
overcast with regular showers.

Raptor Observations:
Only one Sharp-shinned Hawk to report, and it was probably a bird which had
stopped to kill the rainy day in the reserve and make the most of the
passerine fall.

Non-raptor Observations:
The day's checklist can be viewed at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S393513232.

A very busy day for the small birds, with a large mixed flock of vireos,
chickadees and warblers keeping us entertained. A small flock of Swainson's
and Hermit Thrush along with the first Northern Parula for the season were
the day's highlights.

Predictions:
Conditions are expected to be much the same as today with regular showers,
overcast skies and slight northerly winds. With a period of relative calm
in the morning and patches of calmness in the afternoon, we may see some
Sharp-shinned Hawk and falcons moving through after being held up today.

Looking forwards to Friday, today and tomorrow's bad weather along the
southern Ontario Peninsula may work in our favour, holding up the
Broad-winged Hawks until conditions become perfect - Friday could be a big
one!
