Visitors:
We thank today's observers for their efforts and those interested in the
ongoing Hawk Count. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level
of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The
2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe
precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and
involvement.
Weather:
Today was warmer with a low of 3 and a high of around 8 C during
observation. Skies were clear during the morning but became more cloudy
towards the afternoon. Winds were southerly throughout the whole day,
becoming slightly stronger in the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Although winds were a discouraging southerly, raptor turnout was better
than expected thanks in part to the warm conditions. The sightings today
include 7 Turkey Vultures, 1 Northern Harrier, 1 Cooper's Hawk, and 23 Red
Tails. A nice surprise was an immature Golden Eagle early in the morning.
Non-raptor Observations:
Slow day for non-raptors. Increased hunting activity on the marsh led to
significantly less duck abundance as seen with all observed duck species.
There was also less passerine movement today with only 105 American
Goldfinch. Today's highlight was a raft of 300 Canvasback Duck on the lake
during the early morning hours.

Predictions:
Temperatures tomorrow are expected to remain mild with a low of 5 C and a
high of 8 C during observation hours. However, rain is expected to be
present throughout the whole day with it being strongest in the morning
hours. This, in combination with strong south-westerly winds throughout the
whole day, will likely limit raptor movement.
