Visitors:
We thank all of our visitors today including Noel, Karen, Len, Jim, and
Claude.
Weather:
The weather today was warm, not very windy and clear skies. This morning
had a bit of fog and higher humidity that left in the late morning. It was
a very calm day with light northerly winds.
Raptor Observations:
This morning started off very slow with very few raptor spotted. We had a
good amount of turkey vultures today, with some buteos tagging along with
them (red-shoulders and red-tails). The highlight of today was our first
GOLDEN eagle! Just as we finished pouting that Detroit saw one yesterday,
one felt sorry for us and flew right over the tower. Thank you!
Non-raptor Observations:
Because today was quite slow raptor wise, we had an opportunity to scout
the marsh for some new birds. We had just over 60 species today, including
first of the season red-breasted merganser and Forster's tern spotted out
on the lake. We had a large number of Bonaparte's gulls sitting on a sandy
spit by the lake. Another fun sight was a massive snapping turtle in the
marsh which also attracted the attention of a few curious wood ducks. Blue
jays were less than we've had today with 10,700.
Predictions:
Tomorrow morning should be north winds and clear skies again. Hoping for
more turkey vultures and buteos over the tower!
