Kingston Area Birds 1 February 2025 – 7 February 2025
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly
to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require
review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type
require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or
directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (
http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type
may be replaced by asterisks.
Overview: It was another good week of birding, with many of our winter
birds appearing in high numbers throughout the Kingston Circle this week.
The Eurasian Tree Sparrow was continuing on Button Bay Road, Wolfe Island
this week. Also of note were the high counts of Rusty Blackbirds seen at
Links Mills School House on County Road 4, Bath this week.

TRUMPETER SWAN – There continue to be multiple sightings in the Kingston
area this week, particularly at the Locks located in the region.
NORTHERN PINTAIL – 2 birds were seen at the Invista Pond on Feb. 1, 1 on
Feb. 5, 2 on Feb. 7
GREEN-WINGED TEAL – 5 birds were continuing at Belle Island on Feb. 3
REDHEAD – 3 birds were seen at Long Point/Gravelly Bay Road (PEC) on Feb.
1; 2 were seen at the Invista Pond on Feb. 2; 2 were seen at Ivy Lea (L&G)
on Feb. 2; 1 was seen at the Lennox Generation Station (L&A) on Feb. 5
RING-NECKED DUCK – 200 birds were seen on the Cataraqui River at the 401 on
Feb. 1; 2 were seen at the Invista Pond on Feb. 1, 1 on Feb. 2, 26 on Feb.
3, 6 on Feb. 5; 1 was seen at Upper Brewers Lock on Feb. 2
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER – 1 bird was seen at Long Point/Gravelly Bay Road (PEC)
on Feb. 1; 2 were seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on Feb. 2, 8 on
Feb. 3, 16 on Feb. 4
DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT – 2 birds were seen flying over Clergy Street on
Feb. 4
GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL – 1 bird was seen at the Millhaven Ferry Dock (L&A)
on Feb. 1
GLAUCOUS GULL – 1 bird was seen at the Millhaven Ferry Dock (L&A) on Feb.

GREAT BLUE HERON – 1 bird was seen at Kingston Mills on Feb. 7

COMMON GRACKLE – 1 bird was seen on Florida Road on Feb. 6

Please note that you must be a card-carrying member of Kingston Field
Naturalists (KFN), or be accompanied by a member, to access both the Martin
Edwards Reserve and Amherstview Sewage Lagoons. Permits are being checked
on a regular basis at Amherstview and those without are being evicted. KFN
members wishing to enter the Invista property must enter through the west
gate and show their membership card to security.
