Visitors:
We thank today's observers and those interested in the ongoing Hawk Count.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is
limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower
levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social
distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement.
Weather:
Sky was consistently cloudy with cloud levels fluctuating from 50% to
nearly 100% cloud cover. Temperature remained in mid 20's and visibility
was good. Winds started as north-westerly but soon shifted to westerly by
the time raptors appeared, therefore placing them at inland distances from
the tower.
Raptor Observations:
Overall good day for raptor observations with the first observed kettle of
broad-wings (around 200) observed far inland, as well as an abundance of
Northern Harriers American Kestrels and Merlins. Migrating Osprey were also
observed.
Non-raptor Observations:
Non-raptor observations consisted of large blackbird movements, moderate
Warbler diversity, and a large abundance of White Egrets located within the
marsh by the hunting lodge. An abundance of Northern Flickers and a family
of Red-Headed Woodpeckers was also observed. Monarch movements were also
high today at approx. 300 observations.

Predictions:
Tomorrow it is expected to once again be partly cloudy and within the mid
20's. Winds are expected to be primarily Easterly in the morning followed
by South-Easterly in the afternoon, hopefully allowing us to view more
morning raptors as migration pressure builds.
