Total observation time: 7.5 hours
Official Counter: Harold V.
Observers: Brett Fried, Dave Brown, Ken Wootton, Kitty Bradshaw,
Mac McAlpine, Matt Oswald, Michele Carnerie,
Ronnie Goodhand, Su Ross-Redmond
Visitors:
Quite a few visitors today and thanks to the crew that helped spot and
count the birds today... Harold, Ken, Matt, Mac, Dave B, Su, Brett, Laure,
Michele, Trish and Ronnie.
Weather:
It's like the weather is on repeat with virtually the same bright blue
skies, no clouds and temps starting quite cool at 2C and then getting to a
high of 19C. Winds were light from the N and eventually backed to the NW.
However, at the lakeshore it felt like we were getting an onshore lake
breeze that may have been pushing the birds further inland.
Raptor Observations:
Today was not the day we thought it would be with a real challenge in
trying to spot the birds! Most of the birds were crossing overhead so high
up that we were having to use scopes to verify what they were. We knew we
were going to be struggling when it became difficult to find the eagles in
the pure blue skies. The final tally today was 756 birds with the bulk
being TVs (566) along with Redtails (65), sharpies (58) and Red-shoulders
(18). We did have some Golden Eagles (5) along with a good number of Bald
Eagles (17) and N Harriers (16). The only falcons were Am Kestrels (3) and
Merlins (3).
Non-raptor Observations:
Lots of non-raptors today with lots of YRWAs and both Kinglets, flocks of
PUFI, PISI, RUBL, COGR, RWBL and EABL.

Predictions:
Friday looks to be an instant replay of today weather wise but with winds
forecast to be light from the E for the day. Updraft and buoyancy rates are
forecast to be pretty high so birds will be able to get to higher flight
altitudes. this means that if there's ZERO clouds again tomorrow it will be
challenging to consistently spot and count migrants.
