The Region of Durham perceives me as a spokesperson for the birdwatchers
who come to lagoons in Durham Region. As such, I received an email this
morning from the Region of Durham asking me to reach out to the birding
community and advise that three birdwatchers were asked to leave the
Sunderland Lagoons this morning. The message is very simple the only lagoon
in Durham Region that the Region will grant access to and recognize as a
birding location is the Nonquonn lagoons and those are only accessible
under individual permits issued by the Region. The Region asked me to be
very clear with the community that no birdwatcher access is permitted at
the Sunderland Lagoons. In today's message they didn't speak about the
other lagoons at Beaverton and Cannington however they told me in the past
that the same rules apply there no birdwatching is permitted. This is an
unfortunate position the Region is taking but it's one that we must abide
by. Please feel free to share this message as you see fit.

Thanks, Geoff
