Visitors:
We thank today's observers and those interested in the ongoing Hawk Count.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is
limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower
levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social
distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement.

Weather:
A light wind remained in the south all day, with the temperature starting
at 23c and rising to 29c by early afternoon. Visibility was slightly
reduced by haze, but improved during the day. Cloud cover reduced during
the morning but increased again by the end of the day

Raptor Observations:
Majority of raptors seen were falcons today, with a group of 3 peregrines
performing aerobatics over the marsh before disappearing to the west. A
good number of Merlins (7) were seen over the day. Sharp-shinned hawks were
the second most numerous but with a relatively low total of 6. Overall
Raptor numbers are still low at a total of 25

Non-raptor Observations:
Bigger numbers of egrets and herons were on the marsh today, with a notable
American Bittern flyby close to the tower. Cedar Waxwing and American
Goldfinch numbers were higher, but hirundines were lower, as were Warblers
with only 9 species seen. The eBird list can be viewed at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S94667111.

Predictions:
It is forecast to be cloudy tomorrow with light winds from the north with a
maximum of 23c.  Hopefully this will improve conditions for thermal
migration resulting in more sightings of buteos.
