Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter:        Nicole Shangi

Observers:        Hugh Kent, Liz Kent

Visitors:
We thank Linda for her help counting raptors, blue jays, and other
passerines today.

Weather:
This morning started with some westerly winds and a few hundred broad-wings
were counted. Throughout the day the winds became more southerly and clouds
began to accumulate resulting in some strong winds.

Raptor Observations:
A few hundred broad-wings were recorded earlier in the day and sharpies
were recorded throughout the day. Kestrels and a few merlins were also
spotted as well as a few harriers that flew over the tower. Today we
recorded much less raptors than yesterday, possibly due to high winds and
storm clouds which arrived later in the day.

Non-raptor Observations:
Today was a good day for warblers with around 10 species counted including
beautiful black-throated greens and northern parulas. There are also more
waterfowl arriving including northern pintails, American wigeons and
blue-winged teal. Today was the biggest day this season for blue jays, with
a whopping 48,000 birds! A new species today was a common loon heard
calling on the marsh!

Predictions:
Hopefully tomorrow is the last super hot day of the season. We hope
northerly winds allow us to observe the last of the broad-wing migration.
