The 32nd Timmins Christmas Bird Count took place on Sat. December 20, 2025. With its center at the intersection of Hwy 101 and Hwy 655, the ONTM circle includes Timmins, Schumacher, South Porcupine and Porcupine.
Weather: The day started under moderate to heavy snow and poor visibility, -15°C (-23°C with wind) and 17 km/h east winds with gusts of 26 km/h. After 12pm, the heavy snowfall, drifting snow, accumulations on roads and poor visibility made spotting birds and travelling a challenge. The snow depth on Dec 20, 2025 was approx. 20 to 25 inches; all water bodies were frozen.
Participation: 16 people ventured out in the field while 14 participants counted at their feeders, for a total of 30 volunteers.
Results: a total of 23 species were found on count day (slightly above the 32-yr average of 20 species). I added the full list and numbers below. No additional species were found during count week, and no new species were added to the ONTM list, which stands at a historical total of 59 species.
