Kingston Area Birds August 29, 2026 – September 4, 2026 Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly to me – contact details below. Some iPhone users report that bold type may be replaced by asterisks. *Overview*: I hope that everyone had an amazing summer. Now that fall is closing in on us and the kids are back to school it is time to start up the weekly bird reports again. Early migration has begun, with some of the shorebirds beginning to pass through the area on their way back south. Some great sightings this week include the large number of Lesser Black-backed Gulls being seen at the Napanee Plains, as well as a high of four Loggerhead Shrikes in the same area. With the nicer weather we have been getting the past couple of days we should start to see more birds move through. *Please note the new email address at the bottom of the report that can be used to submit observations if you are not using eBird.* *Kingston List* Greater Scaup: One bird was seen on Amherst Island-Martin Edwards Reserve (L&A) on September 2. Bufflehead: One bird was seen on Swetman Island (PEC) on September 4. Red-necked Grebe: One bird was seen as Long Point and Gravelly Bay Road (PEC) on August 31, eleven on September 1. Lesser Black-backed Gull: Eighteen birds were seen at the Limestone Plain IBA (L&A) on September 2, ten on September 3, four on September 4. Black Tern: One bird was seen near Swetman Island (PEC) on September 4. American Golden-Plover: Four birds were seen at the Napanee Limestone Plain IBA (L&A) on September 2, sixteen on September 3, nine on September 4. Least Bittern: One bird was seen at Moll’s Wetland, Sydenham on August 29, one on September 2. Two were seen at the Amherstview Sewage Lagoons (L&A) on August 31, one on September 2, one on September 4. American Goshawk: One bird was seen on the Burbrook Road Trail on September 2. Red-headed Woodpecker: One bird was seen at Camden Lake Provincial Wildlife Area (L&A) on August 29, two on September 2. Loggerhead Shrike: Four birds were seen at the Napanee Limestone Plain IBA (L&A) on September 3, two on September 4. Gray-cheeked Thrush: One bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on September 3. Tufted Titmouse: One bird was seen at Belle Island on August 29. Two were seen on Bateau Lane on August 30. Two were seen on Montreal Street on September 1. Ruby-crowned Kinglet: One bird was seen at Lemoine Point CA on August 29. Connecticut Warbler: One bird was seen on Gun Road (L&A) on August 31. Northern Parula: Three birds were seen at Lemoine Point CA on August 29, one on August 30. Two were seen at Belle Island on August 29. One was seen at Landon Bay (L&G) on August 31. Two were seen on Bateau Lane on August 30, two on August 31. One was seen at 104 Hardwood Lane on August 31. Two were seen at 803 Blueberry Lane (L&G) on August 31. One was seen on Gun Road (L&A) on August 31. One was seen at the Nicholson’s Point Nature Preserve (L&A) on August 31. American Pipit: One bird was seen on Swetman Island (PEC) on September 3. One was seen on Amherst Island (L&A) on September 4. Lincoln’s Sparrow: One bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on August 31. Orchard Oriole: One bird was seen at Prince Edward Point NWA (PEC) on September 3.
