Visitors:
We thank today's observers and those interested in the ongoing Hawk Count.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is
limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower
levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social
distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement.
Weather:
Today the wind was light from the south. The temperature started at 21c
and increased to a high of 30c mid afternoon. Cloud cover varied throughout
the day, visibility was good all day
Raptor Observations:
Another day of low numbers but good variety. All 3 falcons were seen
together with a Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawks and a single
Red-tailed Hawk. There were reports of Broad-winged Hawks being seen at
Ojibway, but we saw none. 7 Turkey Vultures were the biggest number.
Non-raptor Observations:
Still a good variety of warbler (10) and vireo (3) species, but in lower
numbers. It was good to see Prothonotary Warbler, Wilson's Warbler and
Northern Parula. There were greater numbers of American Goldfinch than
Cedar Waxwing today. Hirundine numbers were lower. The first American Coots
of the Fall were spotted on the marsh. The list is at

Predictions:
Tomorrow's weather will be similar to today's but with wind from the south
west. When will we see the migration begin?
