Good afternoon,
A Western Tanager (male) was found this morning by David M. Houston and continues this afternoon in Timmins (Northern Ontario, Cochrane District). It is the first record for Timmins (to the best of my knowledge)
It was catching insects from the poplars near a private residence along Lakeshore rd near Gillies Lake Conservation Area's beach and playground. A few of us just observed it from the road with the owner's permission. OBRC report will be submitted shortly.
Other notable sightings in Timmins today: A Ruddy Duck at Porcupine Lake's White Waterfront and 3 American White Pelicans at Kamiskotia Lake.
