Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The 2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and involvement. Weather: Day was consistently sunny with limited cloud cover and clear skies with temperatures maintaining around 23 degrees C. Wind was souther easterly and southerly for the most start but started to shift easterly by the days end. Raptor Observations: Quite a slow day for raptors with only 65 Turkey Vultures and 26 Sharpies. Northern Harriers have come back at 5 observations today but beyond that nothing notable. All three falcon species were seen today but in low numbers. Non-raptor Observations: Marsh bird counts were high today with plenty of ducks and related duck diversity. Slow day for songbirds, although we were surprised to once again see a yellow warbler by the tower. Tree swallows also made a return with large amounts hawking over the marsh. Blue Jay migration continues although at lower numbers today (11,000) compared to yesterday. Monarchs were present but only at 4 observations. https://ebird.org/checklist/S96000807 Predictions: Tomorrow morning it is expected to rain, with it clearing up by the late morning/noon. Temperatures are supposed to mirror today as well. Winds are expected to be southerly early on with a shift towards souther-westerly with all of these factors in combination making it not favourable for a rise in raptor movement, especially for buteos.
