Visitors:
We thank today's observers for their help and those interested in the
ongoing Hawk Count. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, access to the top level
of Hawk Tower is limited to hawk counters and qualified observers only. The
2nd and lower levels are open to the public practising COVID-19 safe
precautions (social distancing). Thank you for your understanding and
involvement.
Weather:
Clear day with partly clouds and sunny conditions. Temperatures increased
from mid teens in the morning to mid 20's in the afternoon. Wind was a
strong south-westerly in the morning with it dying down and becoming
southerly in the afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Good day for accipiters and falcons, where 200+ Sharp Shinned hawks were
recorded throughout the day and consistent numbers of both American
Kestrels (61) and Merlin (10). Northern harriers, Cooper's Hawks and
Broad-wings were also present. Turkey Vultures appear to be migrating in
larger numbers.
Non-raptor Observations:
Slow day for Warblers and thrushes, however Blue Jay movements were quite
high at approx. 9900. Duck diversity is still high with increasing numbers
of waterfowl on the marsh today. Attached is checklist:

Predictions:
Stronger south-westerly winds are expected tomorrow which could impact
already low buteo movement. Temperatures and sunny conditions are expected
to be similar tomorrow as it was today. Accipiter and falcon movements are
expected to be the same with similar numbers as to recorded today.
