Visitors:
We thank all our wonderful visitors and observers today including Olga,
Karen, Noel, Cindy, Chip, John, and the group from Ojibway Nature Centre
lead by Karen Cedar. We really needed all hands on deck today!
Weather:
We could not have asked for a better day on the tower today. The
temperatures dropped significantly making it much more pleasant on the
tower. The wind was very strong and northerly all day bringing in masses of
hawks.
Raptor Observations:
HUGE migration of broad-winged hawks today. There were rivers of
broad-wings in the sky. It was so amazing to see the hawks in good numbers
today after we thought their migration was nearing the end. The weather
played a huge role in their appearance today. There were also many harriers
in the morning and kestrels and sharpies flying over all day. A good amount
of peregrines and bald eagles as well!
Non-raptor Observations:
There weren't many non-raptor species seen today, as we were busy counting
hawks and the strong winds probably kept many away. We had a pair of
sandhill cranes fly over the marsh multiple times today which was a treat.

Predictions:
Tomorrow looks like another beautiful day, and although getting late for
broad-wings, we hope to see more large numbers tomorrow. If the wind is
northerly, tomorrow would be a day I recommend a visit to the tower!
