Total observation time: 2 hours
Official Counter: Hugh Kent, Mike Jaber
Observers: Hugh Kent, Liz Kent, Mike Jaber
Visitors:
Many thanks to Mike and Liz for accompanying me in the cold conditions.
Weather:
Weather was cold (-2C) with snow flurries, and strong gusty wind from the
west causing significant wind chill. Visibility was about 10 km initially.
During the second hour the wind shifted slightly south of west towards WSW,
and with an approaching wall of heavier snow steadily reducing visibility
to about 50m, we ended the watch at 10am.
Raptor Observations:
No raptors were seen.
Non-raptor Observations:
Ring-billed Gulls (226) were seen flying west over the marsh, together with
American Herring Gulls (20). Despite the cold, duck numbers seemed stable.
There were very few small birds seen around the tower or flying over. The
list is at: https://ebird.org/checklist/S204008810
Predictions:
Tomorrow looks to be an even colder day, with wind from the west south west
under overcast skies. Hopefully we will see some raptors on the last day of
the Hawk Watch.
