Kingston Area Birds 18 January 2025 – 24 January 2025

Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email  records directly
to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require
review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type
require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or
directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (
http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type
may be replaced by asterisks.

Overview: It was a good week for birding in the Kingston Area this week,
even with the cold front that moved through the area.  The Eurasian Tree
Sparrow was continuing on Wolfe Island this week, thank you again to Mark
for accommodating the guests coming to see your visitor.

  A lonely Pine Warbler made seems to be settled in at a residence in

Gananoque, continuing throughout the week.

*Parish Notes:  *Correction Notice-The Red-throated Loon reported from the
Wolfe Island Ferry on Jan. 10 has been re-identified as a Common Loon.

TRUMPETER SWAN – 95 birds were seen at Lower Brewers Lock on Jan. 19, 44 on
Jan. 20, 12 on Jan. 22; 5 were seen on Amherst Island (L&A) on Jan. 19; 14
were seen at the Helen Quilliam Sanctuary on Jan. 24; 37 were seen at
Chaffey’s Lock (L&G) on Jan. 24

GREEN-WINGED TEAL – 12 birds were continuing at Belle Park on Jan. 20

RING-NECKED DUCK – 1 bird was seen on Howe Island on Jan. 18; 216 were
reported from Invista on Jan. 22

WHITE-WINGED SCOTER – 1 bird was seen on Wolfe Island on Jan. 18; 12 were
seen at Long Point/Gravelly Bay Road (PEC) on Jan. 18, 8 on Jan. 19, 6 on
Jan. 20, 8 on Jan. 23; 4 were seen at 21357 North Shore Road, Dexter, NY

BARROW'S GOLDENEYE – 1 bird (unconfirmed) was reported from Portsmouth
Olympic Harbour on Jan. 23
