On the 27th of December, a relatively mild day, 31 field and 23 feeder observers conducted the 71st Carleton Place CBC. It was a banner day for the count with 9 records set: Canada Geese 1810 Mallard 137 Barred Owl 6 Red-bellied Woodpecker 4 Merlin 3 Eastern Bluebird 12 Junco 377 Cardinal 115 Total Individual 8889 up from the previous record of 8852 The amazing part is the results given a lack of Redpolls, Grosbeaks, Bohemians Waxwings and Siskins.
