Kingston Area Birds January 10, 2026 – January 16, 2026
Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintain records in a 50km radius of
MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their
sightings with ‘Kingston FN’. Alternatively, please email records directly
to me – contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require
review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise. Species in bold type
require completion of a rare bird report available on the KFN website or
directly from me. If indicated, an OBRC report may be required instead (
http://www.ofo.ca/site/Obrcreport). Some iPhone users report that bold type
may be replaced by asterisks.
Overview: A very rare Slaty-backed Gull was found by Christine Hough at
the Verona Landfill on January 11. A number of birders came out to see
this rarity, great find Christine.

Kingston List
Cackling Goose: One was seen at Finkle’s Shore Park (L&A) on January 10.
Northern Pintail: One was seen on Centennial Road (L&G) on January 11.
Slaty-backed Gull: One was seen at the Verona Landfill on January 11, 12,
13 and last reported on January 14.
Golden Eagle: One was seen at 136 Main Street-Odessa (L&A) on January 12.
One was seen at the Violet Dump (L&A) on January 12. Possibly the same bird
due to proximity and time.
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: One was seen in Sydenham on January 12. One was
seen on Sand Hill Road on January 12.
Fish Crow: One was seen at Wellington and Lower Union Streets on January
13, two on January 14, one on January 15
Northern Mockingbird: One was seen on Wolfe Island on January 10 and again
on January 16.
Eastern Bluebird: Three were seen on County Road 7 (L&A) on January 11. Two
were seen on Little Creek Road (L&A) on January 13. Two were seen on County
Road 7 (L&A) on January 14.
Tufted Titmouse: One was seen on Belle Island on January 11 through to
January 14 and again on 16.
Field Sparrow: Two were seen at Links Mills School House (L&A) on January
11.
White-crowned Sparrow: One was seen at 4837 County Road 2 (L&G) on January
10 through to Jamuary 15.
Savannah Sparrow: One was seen on Amherst Island-Martin Edwards Reserve
(L&A) on January 13.
Swamp Sparrow: One was seen at Little Cataraqui CA on January 16.
Red-winged Blackbird: Six were seen at 5545 Perth Road Crescent on January
11, four on January 12, four on January 13, six on January 14 and five on
January 15. One was seen at 125 Nina’s Lane on January 11.
In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording
area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings
Policy

Naturalists (KFN), or be accompanied by a member, to access the Martin
Edwards Reserve. Access to the Amherstview Sewage Lagoons is strictly
limited to KFN members only, no non-member guests permitted. Memberships
are being checked on a regular basis at Amherstview and those without are
being evicted. KFN members wishing to enter the Invista property must enter
through the west gate and show their membership card to security.
