Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end time: 14:00:00
Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: Dave Brown
Observers: Chris Burris, Mac McAlpine, Matt Oswald, Ronnie Goodhand,
Su Ross-Redmond
Visitors:
Quite a few visitors today and unfortunately not much in the way of birds
to see. Thanks to Mac, Chris, Matt, Su and Ronnie for sticking around to
help despite the very slow day.
Weather:
The winds were moderate from the SW for most of day and we expected a much
better count of Peregrines but it was not to be. Skies were a good mix of
sun and cloud but temps continued to be WAY above the seasonal norm hitting
28C with a humidex near 32C!
Raptor Observations:
A very small flight today with singles of N. Harrier, Cooper's Hawk, Bald
Eagle, Red-tailed Hawk, Merlin and Am. Kestrel. Add to that just 3 Sharpies
and then the bonus for the day with 5 Peregrines and the total was just 14
birds over the course of 7 hours of observation! Very sad...
The Peregrines came through in the morning at 9:48, 9:58, 10:34, 10:42 and
11:25 (these are "bird" times meaning EST).
Non-raptor Observations:
Some non-raptors were noted today including a nice Red-headed Woodpecker,
Gray-cheeked Thrush, Indigo Bunting and Eastern Phoebe.
Monarch count: 20
Predictions:
Forecast is rain for the day Tuesday as a cold front crosses the region.
Once the front passes we'll see much colder air and a northerly flow of
winds behind it so we'll have to see what the rest of this week looks like.
