Total observation time: 9 hours
Official Counter: Chris Burris
Observers: Dave Brown, Tom Bolohan
Visitors:
Many visitors throughout the day on this first day of "Hawk Cliff Weekend."
Thanks to all who offered their eyes and enthusiasm, especially as spotting
became more challenging in the pure blue of mid-afternoon. For those of you
who had questions, we hope we were able to answer them well enough.
Weather:
Temps from 11C to 22C. Winds moderate NNE/N. Variable cloud cover.
Raptor Observations:
Respectable numbers and surprising variety for the date: We recorded 13 of
15 of our regularly occurring raptors, including an EARLY young American
Goshawk that was photographed and seen well by many.
Non-raptor Observations:
Good numbers of warblers were around. Most notable was a presumed
TOWNSEND'S WARBLER in a tree near the platform at 835 EDT, seen by multiple
experienced observers.
Predictions:
Mostly N winds, stronger than today, are forecast, which should bring some
birds down. Spotting them will be the challenge if we face pure blue again.
