Observation start time: 07:00:00
Observation end  time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 9 hours

Official Counter:        Hugh Kent

Observers:        Karen Padbury, Liz Kent

Visitors:
Many thanks to Karen for helping with observing. It was good to see Mel
again and to meet Alicia and Heidi, Alex and Mum.  A few other visitors
also made it to the Tower and all showed interest in the Hawk Watch and
birds on the Marsh.

Weather:
Light to moderate wind initially from the north, turning south west mid
morning. Scattered clouds, cover increasing throughout day. Misty early on
but clearing within first hour. Temperature rising to 25c in the afternoon.

Raptor Observations:
Sharp-shinned Hawks (156) and Broad-winged Hawks (82) were the most
numerous again, with both forming small kettles or mixed kettles. American
Kestrels reached 45 with Turkey Vultures 16.  Ten species today with the
remainder not exceeding 10 each.

Non-raptor Observations:
We had a fall of Warblers this morning with 17 species seen! The bird of
the day was an Eastern Whip Poor Will found resting in the open on a tree
limb close to the Tower. Other  new species this season included Brown
Thrasher, Lincoln's Sparrow, Tennessee Warbler and Northern Parula. A total
of 72 species were seen today. The list can be found at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S149666093 including a photo of the Whip Poor
Will.

Predictions:
Rain is forecast for the morning, clearing about midday. The wind has a
northern aspect so maybe something will move in the afternoon. We will
probably commence the watch once the rain has ended.
