On Nov. 1, I checked out a hummingbird that has been reported coming to
feeder for about a month. The bird appears to be a female Rufous
Hummingbird. If anyone with more experience with Rufous or Allen's please
comment. The bird was not seen during the afternoon of Nov. 1 or on Nov. 2.
Reports this morning (8:20 am) Nov. 3, is that the bird is actively feeding
at the feeder.
The address is 1310 Hutton Park Drive, just west of Valley St., Thunder Bay.
The homeowner is open to visitors. If you walk to the end of the driveway
along the side of the house there is a chain link fence with a basketball
hoop in front of the fence. If you stand on the right side of the basketball
hoop you can see the hummingbird feeder hanging in the crab apple tree to
the left of the swing set (about 12 metres away). There is an excellent
sightline from this location. There is no need to go into the back yard.
