Good morning and happy Mother’s Day,
This morning was an awesome birding day in the park. Over twenty species
of warbler including BLACKPOLL, BLUE-WINGED, BAY-BREASTED, BLACKBURNIAN and
many NORTHERN PARULAS. Several PROTHONOTARY WARBLERS have been reported in
Tilden’s and on the Woodland Trail. An adult LITTLE GULL was flying around
the tip. Woodland Trail has CLAY-COLORED SPARROW and ACADIAN FLYCATCHER
plus a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER which was also noted at DeLaurier along with
an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER. Tilden’s was very active with 20 warbler
species as well as YELLOW-THROATED, BLUE-HEADED and PHILADELPHIA VIREOS
plus many SCARLET TANAGERS, a GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH and another OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER.
West Beach parking lot continued to have a GRASSHOPPER SPARROW and further
north at White Pine was a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD. Continuing north on the
west beach trail between Dunes and Northwest Beach there was a PRAIRIE
WARBLER.
Watch for hawks today and daytime migrants. A PEREGRINE FALCON and many
BALD EAGLE sightings have been made.
Good birding!
